Retro was the only EP (7″) by Ultravox, then Ultravox!, released on February 10 1978. It was the last recording released by the band as Ultravox!. Also this was the last disc featuring original guitarist Stevie Shears, who left the band after its release.

Dots & stripes of the 70's

An old photograph grabbed from the family albums.
I don’t remember those days, since I was just a few months old. But this moment was catched by my father, and the pic represent my mother (striped collar) and my godmother (doted dress).

I scanned this photograph especially for the splendid theme proposed by Pretty Pink Tuesday-group: Retro Pink 70’s.

On the one hand it definetely was a pink year for my parents: they finally got a little girl, they moved to a bigger appartement for which they have been waiting for few years already. On the other hand the daily routine and the overal situation were not so pink at all. Besides a fact that they couldn’t prepare pinky room for a new-born baby, nor buy pinky little clothes for her, just because the ‘pinkish stuff’ was not available in this part of the world at that time. The political and economical situation those days in Poland was far from good and it was getting worse day after day. The tension and fear escaleted, till the next jumping-off point of the communist history: martial law (december ’81)…but this is another, less pinkish story.

But as with all kind of storytelling: behind the every Big and Unpleasant Flow of History, there may lie some little, pinkish memories too.
